Philadelphia Union vs Inter Miami

On Tuesday night, Inter Miami defeated the Union 4-1 in a Leagues Cup semifinal after Messi hit a 30-yard shot past three Philadelphia

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner scored his ninth goal in six matches with his new team in front of roughly 20,000 spectators

Nothing from three Union season-ticket holders who swapped home club apparel for Messi gear for a night. Or supporters waiting in line for real Messi

Of course, the Union wanted to win, but they loaded the coffers and garnered more global attention in one night than in any previous game

Messi's introduction and goal past diving Andre Blake revved up the crowd. Messi rushed extended arms and pounded his fist in the air as he soared

First-half goals for Miami came from Jordi Alba, Josef Martinez, and David Ruiz. South Florida will play Nashville or Monterrey in the Leagues Cup

Union owner Jay Sugarman told The Associated Press that shifting the game from Subaru Park to Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Eagles,

was not considered. While the football stadium could have held 40,000+ fans, Sugarman stated coach Jim Curtain promised him the game would stay set.

"We love the Eagles, and many will be here tonight, but this is a big tournament with a lot at stake," Sugarman said.
